Fujitsu and Siemens sign global partnership
Preferential agreement in Europe and Asia Pacific
7 October 2003
Fujitsu and Siemens have signed an IT services partnership that will see Fujitsu supported in Europe and Siemens likewise in Asia-Pacific.
The deal comes after Siemens' business services subsidiary, which is trying to expand into Asia, asked for a partner at the end of last year. Fujitsu responded and in return demanded support in Europe to help it break into the market.
The two companies already have close ties, having combined their computer manufacturing business into Fujitsu Siemens Computers in October 1999. "Having collaborated with Fujitsu for years in many projects,” said group president of Siemens Business Services, Paul Stodden, “we have built a trustworthy relationship with each other.”
The preferential agreement is non-exclusive and covers the whole range of IT services from consulting to systems management and outsourcing. The deal enables both companies to increase worldwide support for their products.
This is what Fujitsu VP Kazuo Murano had to say: “We are excited about this new partnership with Siemens Business Services. It enables us to extend our services network to further support the globalisation of our customers, thereby expanding our global services business.” Which seems fairly clear.
Stodden had more: “The agreement will considerably enhance our capability to care for our multi-national customers. Thus it is a major step in the strategic alignment of our global business.” Global is definitely the word here.
